Eggerich gets right to the point in the introduction of Love & Respect that Love Alone Is Not Enough.

“Do you want some peace? Do you want to feel close to your spouse? Do you want to feel understood? Do you want to experience marriage the way God intended? Then try some Love and Respect!”

Introduction, p2

I’ve longed for peace, to feel closer to my spouse (more then we already are), to feel understood, and definitely to experience marriage the way God intended! I pray I’m able to learn what it is, to practice the things taught here.

I’ve started to read this book several times… and find myself becoming frustrated, setting the book aside, unable to read any further. Here I am, further along in the journey of marriage, watching God work wonders in it! Hoping I’ve grown enough to get past the point I stopped last time… which I’m no where close to yet & honestly can’t even remember what the points are in the book that stop me from reading. So, I sit here today, revealing myself, that I commit to my marriage & to other friends reading through the book as well – that I will finish it! My hope is to share this new journey here while going through the workbook!

We start sharing (my friends & I) this week, reading only through the introduction & chapter 1 and so far I’d say anyone contemplating marriage, married already, and even divorced – needs to read this book.

Please don’t hesitate to join me, share your thoughts in the comments section, or email me privately: HLJourney AT gmail DOT com as I journey through Eggerichs’ Love & Respect:

Introduction: Love Alone Is Not Enough

PART ONE: THE CRAZY CYCLE

1. The Simple Secret to a Better Marriage
2. To Communicate, Decipher the Code
3. Why She Won’t Respect; Why He Won’t Love
4. What Men Fear Most Can Keep the Crazy Cycle Spinning
5. She Fears Being a Doormat; He’s Tired of “Just Not Getting It”
6. She Worries about Being a Hypocrite; He Complains, “I Get No Respect!”
7. She Thinks She Can’t Forgive Him; He Says, “Nobody Can Love That Woman!”

PART TWO: THE ENERGIZING CYCLE

8. C-O-U-P-L-E: How to Spell Love to Your Wife
9. Closeness – She Wants You to Be Close
10. Openness – She Wants You to Open Up to Her
11. Understanding – Don’t Try to “Fix” Her; Just Listen
13. Loyalty – She Needs to Know You’re Committed
14. Esteem – She Wants You to Honor and Cherish Her
15. C-H-A-I-R-S: How to Spell Respect to Your Husband
16. Conquest – Appreciate His Desire to Work and Achieve
17. Hierarchy – Appreciate His Desire to Protect and Provide
18. Authority – Appreciate His Desire to Serve and to Lead
19. Insight – Appreciate His Desire to Analyze and Counsel
20. Relationship – Appreciate His Desire for Shoulder-to-Shoulder Friendship
21. Sexuality – Appreciate His Desire for Sexual Intimacy
22. The Energizing Cycle Will Work If You Do

PART THREE: THE REWARDED CYCLE

23. The Real Reason to Love and Respect
24. The Truth Can Make You Free, Indeed

Conclusion: Pink and Blue Can Make God’s Purple

I cannot say how long this journey will take… so please hang in there with me while I walk this passage of marriage!

Hugs & Prayers,

Hello everyone,

I know it’s been a while; but seasons are changing around here & I’m still busy!! But, busy is good – it just depends on how we look at things. I’ve been working in the elder-care field again!! Thanking God daily for using me here when home needs slow – my business is all to the glory of Him who guides me.

I wanted to stop in today to let you all know about two different books I’m about to embark on! The Power of a Praying Parent by Stormie OMartian AND 31 Days of Praise: Enjoying God Anew by Ruth & Warren Myers!

So excited to share another SHMILY journey with a group on Facebook getting ready to read through The Power of a Praying Parent! I’ve had this book for quite some time – began to read it; but never finished. So hopefully this time with the accountable and encouragement – I’ll complete it!

Regardless of whether you have a book or not, you can still pray each day for your child(ren) by stopping by Amy’s blog to see the topic of the day. She will have them listed on the sidebar of her blog, so no matter when you start, you can check them when it’s convenient for you. Amy’s blog is: Dandelion Seeds!
