Session 1 Assignment 2/8/2010:

1. Share with us your name, a little bit about yourself, and…
2. Answer: Who is God to me?

I’m Heather: a servant of God’s (sometimes not doing too well in that department – happily); His child… learning to walk with Him as He wills; a wife; a mom of 2 boys; primary care-giver for my mom (dealing with fibromylagia & depression); a sister; an aunt; a friend; … … and a private elder-caregiver and thankful for my care-giving heart. Seeking to please Him, and stumbling some too.

God… … He is my everything, and yet – I still lean on my own understanding too much. For too long I saw Him as this harsh, disciplinary judge; unreachable. But as I grew closer, reading His Word, and being mentored by many (thank you) I’ve learned that He is my loving Dad. He’s guiding me, teaching me, suggesting to me – and letting me fall to; keeping His hand on me – protecting me! I’m so unworthy of His love, His kindness, grace & mercy. He forgives me; little ol’ me for all I’ve repented for. He is with me – WOW, always with me; to help me through. He knows my thoughts before I allow them out of my mouth. He created me- – -why is what I need to figure out as I continue this journey too.

Thankful for Jenifer sharing this study with us all & excited to see all that we learn together.

James encourages us to be filled with joy as we walk through trials, as each trial – that will inevitably come – is a test of our faith & will help produce patience within us. We’re to take the steps, prepare ourselves, to have a positive outlook throughout the trial. Not that we’re to pretend that we’re happy, but to take the time to look for the good, the blessings, or even what you learn from each trial.

Yes, this is not an easy task… remember, we can do all things with Christ who strengthens us! He will give us the ability to have joy in trials… all we have to do is ask!

Each trail we endure (growing patience) brings us closer to God, where He wants us –> depending on Him, trusting in Him to see us through, trusting in His Will for each situation, to Lean on Him – not our own understanding.

Max Lucado asks: How can you find joy in trouble?
I ask too… … … and pray; seeking His guidance to answer this question and return to His Word –> we’re to ask for wisdom! With God’s wisdom He’ll fill us with the joy – helping us to see the blessings within the storm, helping us to learn from the situation, and bringing us closer to Him.
