TrinnyLeslie – flu shot…

Last Wednesday I went to the doctor to get the flu shot, because the doctor told me that since my immune system is compromised, I will need to get it. An hour and a half afterward I started getting stomach cramps, so I took a zantac and it work. At 2 am the next day I started feeling severe stomach pains, so Alex called his mother to watch the kids, and called the ambulance. I went to the hospital my mother-in-law works at, and in the ER they give me a Demorol shot to stop the pain, it work for a while but then the pain came back. The doctors tried to find a vein but because of the Scleroderma hardening my skin, they had to go into my neck to run an IV in the vein. Of course it was a minor surgery but painful and scary, Alex was there holding my hands, although the doctor said that they usually do not allow people to stay and watch the procedure. But since he said that he can handle it they allowed him to stay, it was a long catheter inserted in my neck with 2 stitches. Then I did a chest x-ray and a CT Scan on my abdomen, those came back negative. At that time I still was receiving Demorol shots for the pain. The doctor then told me that he will have to admit me in the hospital, because of my health condition he did not want to take any chances. I was in a room by myself the first night, Alex did come back to the hospital to bring clothes. The next 3 and a half days I was doing blood tests, glucose testing, almost 2 days without food just liquids, vital signs test practically every four hours a day. After a time my fingers became sore and still is right now, in fact I am wearing gloves to type this e-mail. Finally my doctor said to the nurse on Saturday to only do my glucose twice a day (thank God), I started eating liquid food diet on Friday, that is broth, clear juice and jello. But on Saturday afternoon lunchtime I started feeling nausea and could not eat, so I told My doctor about it and he said he will have to keep me in the hospital until it stops. He did change the liquids given to me in the IV to something else, and gave me solid food instead to see if I can tolerate it. He also said that if I do tolerate the food he will send me home. That same night I was given pasta and spaghetti to eat, juice and jello (thank God again), you know I was hungry and I did tolerate the food. My brother finally came to the hospital with my cousin to visit, and my sister, mother-in-law, friends, Alex and the kids too. In conclusion the verdict was an infection I pick up; that is what the doctors said (yeah right).Yesterday before I was release from Club Med (lol) the doctor had to remove the catheter from my neck, she was very rough and I scream very loud. The catheter look like a snake when she show me it, I cried when I looked at it. Now I have to be very careful, take my medications of course, follow up with the doctors, and stay away from severe cold weather. I am suppose to be getting a Visiting Nurse Service to come home and assist me, although Alex is on family medical leave through the end of the month.
